CDDY/IVDD Position Statement

CDDY/IVDD is a newly identified testable genetic marker that could indicate a pre-disposition the development of disc fusion and other spinal issues. A dog testing as Affected/At-Risk is not guaranteed to develop the problem later in life. Almost ALL small breeds (toy poodles) are testing as M/M or M/m. The recommendation from top health officials is not to cull the gene pool just because a dog tests as having a predisposition. The recommendation is to slowly breed away from the disease over time. At this time we are closely monitoring new research concerning the disease and we are following the recommended guidelines.
