Steps to Becoming an Owner

Step One

Identify The Litter or Puppy That You Are Interested In

We have conveniently laid out our currently available puppies, our current litters, and our planned litters. Take some time to peruse each of these pages for the breed you are interested in. These pages are regularly updated.

Step Two

Fill Out An Application

Oftentimes our litters are completely pre-sold prior to birth. This means, if you are interested in getting a puppy from a future litter you should go ahead and complete an application, even if the litter isn’t born yet. If applying for a litter that is currently born with availability, even more reason to not hesitate. Please, when filling out the application be thorough and honest.

Step Three

Check Your E-mail

All applicants will receive an e-mail, regardless of acceptance status. The e-mail will either come from Courtney@valauarahfarms.com or Valerie@valaurahfarms.com, please check your spam folder if you do not see a reply to your application.

Step Four

Acceptance Letter

If your application has been approved, you will receive our acceptance letter. Please read this carefully, as each one is different. You may be asked to complete a phone interview, this is especially the case for those seeking a breeding prospect. If you are not asked for a phone interview, but you would desire one please let us know.

Step Five

Phone Interview

If desired, we will schedule a phone interview. These are usually done between 10 am and 5 pm. If those hours do not work for you, we can make some special accommodations. You will be asked to call me, rather than for me to call you.

Step Six

Reservation Fee

Following the Phone Interview and/or Acceptance Letter, you will be invited to Open a PetPortal Account. The e-mail will look like the below clip. Through this portal, you will be able to sign our Puppy Warranty agreement, place your NON-REFUNDABLE Reservation Fee, and view details about your puppy.

Our Reservation Fee is $500+tax for any puppy not yet born and for puppies currently on the ground under 8 Weeks of Age. For puppies over 8 weeks of age, no reservation fee is required, instead, we will just take full payment at the time of pick-up/delivery.

Reservation Fees are generally placed through Paypal, however, special accomodations can me made if requested.

Step Seven

Sign-Up For Our Newsletter and Follow Along With Your Litter

If you have not done so already, be sure to sign-up for our Newsletter. This will keep you up-to-date with all of our latest news, and most importantly, there WILL BE IMPORTANT E-MAIL COMMUNICATION about your specific puppy and/or litter. This will be how the primary communication is sent, including updated pictures, development information, health testing documents, vet appointment review, and, of course, PUPPY PICKS!

Also, remember to like us on Social Media as well.

Frequently asked questions

Why Do Your Puppies Cost So Much?

AJ9A7350.jpg

I am frequently asked “Why are your puppies so expensive? I can go to a different breeder and buy a puppy for 1/3 (or 1/8th) the price you are asking.”

My answer, in short, is that breeding is expensive: breeding, when done responsibly and ethically, is CRAZY EXPENSIVE. Below is a brief overview of expenses for raising just one Momma dog to the point of whelping. I am certain that there are expenses I don’t have listed (grooming is the one that comes to mind immediately, and my groomer can tell you, I spend some money in Grooming).

Note, this does not include any of the costs incurred in actually RAISING a litter to a higher standard with an advanced curriculum. This does not include MY TIME (do you work for free? because I do. 24/7 care for 8-9 weeks straight). This does not take into account emergencies or the loss of a beloved dog. This does not take into account all the vacations and holidays and parties that I miss. Marketing expenses, home expenses, insurance, transport, health testing on puppies, vet care for puppies, CLEANING SUPPLIES (EASILY $700 PER LITTER!!!), FOOD (have you fed a litter of 12 puppies at 8 weeks old? These guys can EAT. Sleepless nights, Medicine, Customer Care… I could keep going, but I think you get the point.

So, the next question, Why do you do this?

I do this because I LOVE it. I love raising puppies. I love the bonding experience with my momma’s. And I LOVE providing families with well-bred, beloved new family members that they can confidently welcome into their life knowing that everything that could possibly be done to ensure their new family member a long and happy life was done.

Q. Where are you located?

We are located 45 minutes north of Spokane, WA.

Q. What are your operation hours?

We are located in the Pacific Time Zone. We do require appointments for phone calls. This can be scheduled via e-mail.

Interview Hours are from

  • 10am - 4pm Monday through Friday

  • Saturdays, if necessary, 10am to 2pm

  • Sunday, closed to spend time with family

Q. What is your preferred Method of Communication?

we are very busy taking care of our puppies and adult dogs, which we love wholeheartedly! Email is our preferred form of communication. Facebook messenger is also nice, but for formal conversations, I like e-mail.

Q. What is your Health Guarantee?

We offer a lifetime genetic health guarantee for diseases that can currently be tested for (except IVDD). The exact details of what is covered can be found in the warranty.

Q. What forms of payment do you accept?

  • We will invoice you for payment. We do not accept cash payments. Payments via Venmo, Paypal or Zelle are also no longer accepted. Once contracts are signed, we will send you an invoice for payment. Please close the invoice within 24 hours of reception.

Q. When is my Final Balance Due?

  • For puppies that will not be picked up locally, final payment is due FOLLOWING puppy picks. This can be made via Zelle or a mailed Cashier’s Check made out to Valaurah Farms. If choosing to use a Cashier’s Check, please be sure to ship with an expedited carrier.

  • For local pick-up, cash will be taken at the time of delivery

Q. How many dogs do you have?

Enough to make me happy. They all live in my house and sleep in our beds/couches. The ones that do not live with me live with their guardian families throughout Washington and Idaho.

Q. Are you Doodle Friendly?

Yes. We support all responsible breeding programs.

Q. Do you offer stud service?

Yes. Please check out the information on our stud page to learn more.

q. when can we visit puppies?

For health and safety reasons we DO NOT allow puppy visitation, however, we completely understand the desire to see and get to know your future companion’s personality. We are more than willing to send videos, photos, and video chats with you so you can see your puppy. Additionally for safety concerns, we do not disclose our location, except to committed buyers who have placed a deposit.

q. how much is the reservation fee?

Reservation fees are $500 and are non-refundable unless otherwise agreed.

q. Why is the holding fee non-refundable?

Our holding fee is non-refundable because people who are “shopping” for any puppy, rather than being committed to purchasing a puppy from Valaurah Farms can significantly inflate the number of people on the waiting list. This gives a false impression to serious buyers regarding timelines and can prevent truly committed families from reserving a puppy.

Additionally, the amount of time spent communicating with clients is significant. Just like your time is valuable, so too is ours. In the event that a family decides to not take a puppy, we still expect to be compensated for our time and efforts, the Reservation Fee covers this.

q. why can’t I reserve a specific puppy?

We believe it is best to match a family’s lifestyle to each puppy’s personality, we will do our best to accommodate your color choice, but if no suitable puppies are available, you will be given the opportunity to roll over to the next litter’s wait-list.

Q. I am not within driving distance, do you ship puppies?

We do not ship puppies, but we will happily work with a transport company/agent of YOUR choosing. We have a small list of recommended Flight Nannies, but we do not arrange transit and YOU must decide which you would like to use.

Alternatively, if you choose to fly to pick up your puppy yourself, we will happily meet you at the airport.
